Yoga Made Weezie
Sleepless In Denver
Last Saturday night I broke my little toe. Basically, I was not paying attention to what I was actually doing and “snap” went the toe on a piece of heavy furniture. It is only when you cannot use them do they become so important. Needless to say (I’ll say it any way) I couldn’t do my Yoga all week and my toe hurt so badly it interfered with my sleep for almost a week.
Granted there are some postures you can do with a broken toe, the Sun Salutation is not one of them. In fact the postures are specifically designed to be done in the order pictured on “Yoga Man”. If you don’t remember “Yoga Man” was featured in an earlier article as a down load. Check the archives and you can go right to him.
In the Sun Salutation we stretch all the major muscle groups, and massage the organs, and stimulate the glands and lymph nodes all over our body. When we don’t get the chance to do this we suffer. Just from taking this past week of completely for the first time in years, I am stiff, feel bloated, edgy and nervous, and my back is developing “hot spots” where my nerves are getting pinched.
Because I have suffered many injuries that have affected my spine, I use yoga to help me maintain posture, stretch the back muscles, help insure I breathe properly, and promote a general overall feeling of well being and good health. It is the most all encompassing series of stretches the World has ever known.
And, I have been a direct recipient of all of its benefits for many years. Two more days, possibly three and I will slowly begin getting back into my Yoga. As with all recovery you must take it easy and slow when first starting out and remember, “good Yogis never hurts themselves”. At least not while doing Yoga, right?
This isn’t the first, nor the last time, I will use Yoga to heal myself. The overall benefit to your body as you are going along in your recovery speeds your recovery up. There isn’t one part or aspect of your being that won’t benefit. That’s why it makes you feel so much better when you do it every day. What is stopping you from enjoying the benefits of The Sun Salutation? Or if you are reaping your rewards, e-mail me and let me know how Yoga has changed your life!
