The Shift
Humanity is on the verge of a great shift in consciousness. We hear the words these days and it’s almost like there is a buzz, but I believe that it is true. Evolution does not happen along nice even timelines. It happens in spurts just like the development of a child. The beginning of a change in manifested phenomena is a change in consciousness and that is what truly evolves. The outer form serves as evidence of inner consciousness. In the case of humanity as a whole we are growing up at an accelerated rate but this development is being held back in two ways by reflections of the same selfish forces. In the microcosm, the individual man he feels a responsibility for what is going on, but he allows himself to be mislead into fearful and protective stances. In his book the Biology of Belief Bruce Lipton teaches us that an organism, even a cell cannot grow while it is in that protective mode.
In this country it has surfaced in political activism toward reactionary goals. Using the guise of freedom in self direction as a means of leaving off any societal response to human need, the populace has been manipulated into positions which are not in its own best interests. We hear complaints of “individual rights” being infringed upon by a government whose regulation of industry he believes somehow hurts the individual. This confusion cannot last forever but because we can recognize the ebb and flow of these tides as essentially emotional arguments, I see at once a closing of the gaps and a widening of them. It can be quite puzzling.
As a new rhythm is applied to one’s life the old ways seem to try to re-assert themselves. To the degree that they are able to attract attention they are re-enforced and rejuvenated. If the individual is able to keep his attention on the new idea, the old one fades away in atrophy and a new “norm” is established. The same will hold true for society and even the global consciousness which seems to adopt new ideas more readily than we do here in America. This feels like the opposite of the America of my youth but I think we had the same problems then and I was just more subject to the kind of illusion they were selling at that time. There are two Americas as the popular politician once proposed, but in a more insidious fashion than he imagined. There are those who are leading and those being led. This will always be the case, but we have to pay attention to where are we allowing ourselves to be led.
It sounds simple and in a sense it is. The problem seems to be that, at least in our system of government the skills and motivations that are required of someone in order to be elected to an office are not the same as the ones that will be effective in running the office. Money is in charge of everything and in this case the guise is the nobility of “the free market” to decide. Materiality gets you elected and materiality keeps you in charge. You must pay back favors to get new ones and the people running our government aren’t even the ones in office, they are the ones who put them there. This materialistic focus exists in the individual’s life and is reflected in the society that is the collective life of all of us.
Why is it that we don’t question the motives of an individual that is willing to spend over $100 million of their own money to get a $250k job? There are very few people who can drum up the kind of financial support it takes to become a leader in this country and they are the most materially driven individuals in our society. They are driven by money and use the office they buy to make more money by creating favorable legislation and taking advantage of it from the private sector.
This is what must change, and we may be on our way. The election of 2008 was about this kind of frustration but the legacy of the Bush Administration in the Roberts Supreme Court has been devastating to political change. The flood of anonymous money into the political arena was hard to watch and it is only the beginning. If what I see coming is real, people will not even be able to watch their TVs and the whole thing will backfire because of abuse. I think the phony misplaced anger generated by some in the midterm elections will be replaced by the real voice of frustration with a society that is fighting to progress while some of its constituents would rather go backwards in time. This is the change in consciousness that will come, even if it means that the old guard dies out. We see this in science. It is said that old scientific theories never die; their steadfast proponents must die away so that they can be released.
The technique of demonizing the government as untrustworthy will die out as it becomes more and more obvious that the ones who cannot be trusted are the ones running big business. As we weaken our government through distrust, we strengthen the hands moving the levers with money. We are a materialistic as individuals and that too is reflected in the way we function as a people. We need effective government and in order to earn that we must become effective people. The government is a reflection of the will of its people. If it is a cruel dictatorship or a functioning republic, they are responsible for it. In the microcosm of the individual’s life the same principals apply. Whatever may be your current life circumstances are of your making and subject to change based upon your awareness of certain principals.
The problem could be seen in the fact that we have been doing this for a long time unconsciously. We need more than a minute to turn around a lifetime of ill-conceived ideas. Not that every idea has been wrong or damaging, but we need to establish new patterns of thinking in order to turn the tides of our lives and institute a new rhythm. Change on the level of individual values will spread and as long as we can keep our attention on the new idea we will succeed in creating a new norm. It starts with the individual. His shift in consciousness will spread and resonate with at least some of his friends and neighbors, and then they tell two friends and they tell two friends, and so on, and so on…
