The Disciple and the Astral Body

The Astral body is usually considered only from its negative aspect. When under control it is a useful tool of the disciple. Desire must first be developed and is useful in driving the man to greater achievement.  This is usually seen in the desire for more things, a better car or house and is materialistic in its focus. The man “wants” and this is the motivating factor for the physical body to act. The motivation is selfish but the physical nature is still moving and being trained in some skill in order to bring about the desired changes. In many cases the material drives foster great care in this training and the man may become a highly effective business man acquiring great wealth. The reading of motivational material and study of great men may follow and certain “secrets” of success are learned which will follow him through his life and be useful no matter what the endeavor. Every step on the path is equally important and equally divine.

Later as he looks around at that which his work has provided for him he may feel that it is not enough and mistakenly re-double his efforts in acquisition only to find that this still leaves a hole. This is when his desire may transmute into aspiration to be a better man rather than just a materially wealthier man. Now the reading skills and people skills he has acquired during his business life are turned toward a less tangible reward. He may decide to try to help people with whom he can relate to find the success he has found by teaching the skills he has acquired. His aspiration now serves the greater good and he feels differently about the work he does. His heart chakra is opening and beginning to increase its activity and he benefits from his service to the world in ways he has not experienced before. Over time this will open him to the unity of men and the universe itself. He begins to delve deep, exploring these new feelings and gains resolve to help more and more people because he sees that we are all moving in the same direction and that he is becoming a light on the way. As he progresses on this path of probation his intuition is developing as well. He is realizing that there is a much greater purpose in life than he had imagined and his aspirations meld into a will to spend the rest of his life in these more worthy pursuits.

His desire for material ends has been transmuted into spiritual will and he becomes the committed disciple. The quest for and identifications with “things” is gone and his focus is on a higher plane of existence. This desire nature is used as a tool and its traps are avoided, or as in this case overcome. He will eventually drop this passionate approach as well and become a dispassionate server working within the mental realms. The skills he acquired during his quest for things will have developed him mentally as well. The desire for things has served to sharpen his intellect and the moment he turns his mind to loftier pursuits, he will find that it is an effective tool in subduing the selfish nature

The average human being in this age spends a great percentage of his time focused within his emotional nature. They move from one situation to another focused on how it makes them feel, all the while protecting and defending the personality with which they identify so closely. Their impression is that they are a somebody, or a nobody, but definitely a body. The notion of evolution which to them has never moved beyond its embryonic stage of biological evolution as presented by Darwin is a threat to them and is answered with “you are trying to say I am nothing more than an animal”. They are aware of the soul as a theory and claim passionate belief but are not sure enough to move the identification from the tangible lower self to this inner thinker or witness, which is the true self.
If this identification is made, as in the case of the disciple, then the nature of the form or its origins is of no threat to the identity. To look at something from an intellectual point of view and “figure it out” is euphemistically referred to as shedding some light on the subject. Using the light of mind to examine a situation leads to an analytical approach and a certain amount of objectivity can be gained. Of course this must be perfected over a lifetime.

The disciple’s task is to supersede the emotional focus and get “out of their gut” and into the mind and the heart. The solar plexus center is the clearinghouse for all of the lower responses and the seat of the instincts that we share with the animal kingdom. While the average man is going on gut instinct the disciple must use the power of his intellect and develop his higher intuition so that he may know he is moving in the right direction and taking the correct course of action based on his analysis of the situation and his intuition as to the greater good. A clear and objective understanding of the situation at hand is necessary if we are to make proper judgment and take proper action.

Biography and Fact Sheet

Douglas Fisichella began his studies of Metaphysics and world religions in his early 20’s. Having been raised in a household without dogmatic assertions about religion, he was not subjected to the usual insistence on one specific faith. His father Anthony J. Fisichella was one of the countries foremost proponents of the Esoteric Sciences. He was also a student of the world’s religions and a biblical scholar. This early exposure to the open study of various religious systems left its impact in a non-judgmental and assimilating attitude toward all spiritual teachings.

Being what he refers to as a casual student for much of his life, these teachings lay behind the scenes as an influence, but not a focus until more recent years. The current upheaval in the world seemingly centered around religious differences awakened what had been slumbering inside of him – the real student. He is now intent on sharing his insight into the common core of the religious faiths of the world in order to take the focus off of the cultural differences in expression.

Throughout his career in Electronic Security he has served as a Technical Trainer for Clients as well as Personnel under his supervision and has also designed and presented trainings for industry groups. He has done many Sales Presentations and served as Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer for several benefits. A lifelong musician and performer, he is no stranger to the stage, having performed in front of thousands as a singer, drummer and guitarist. He is dynamic and entertaining and capable of holding the attention of any group large or small.

Since the passing of their father, he and his brother Anthony Jr. have taken up the mantle and begun spreading the teachings of the Ancient Wisdom. This has propelled Doug deeper than he ever imagined into these teachings, feeling a need to “get it right” in his fathers absence. He is now a student of the Arcane school of the Lucis Trust which also trained his father.

Together the family started Higher Ground Publishing as a sister organization to the Higher Ground Foundation started by Anthony Sr. Doug also mastered and produced the audio recordings available through Higher Ground in his own recording studio.

Doug and Tony Jr. were intimately involved in the editing and publication of the recently completed trilogy, “One Solitary Life”. They have presented these teachings on numerous occasions, working together when possible and individually when necessary.
