My name is Doug Fisichella and I would like to introduce you to the most brilliant man I have ever known. This book was his first work and was only written after incessant prodding and cajoling by his students and especially his friends. Dad never wanted to “crystallize” his thinking into form that way. He always knew there was more to learn and that his understanding could and would evolve over time as does everything else in the universe. Echoes from Eternity was originally entitled Metaphysics, What Is It Anyway, then published by Llewellyn Publishing, as Metaphysics, The Science of Life.
In this excerpt from the book he explains his feelings about writing it:
For many years I have resisted the urging of friends, students, and colleagues to write a book or series of books dealing with my perspective on that synthesis of science, religion, and philosophy known variously as metaphysics, esotericism, the occult, or the “Ageless Wisdom.” It was their wish that an attempt be made by me to capture the essence of that Universal and Divine Process that has guided and sustained the evolution of Life since the inception of time, the echoes of which still reverberate throughout the infinite Cosmos. I have long expressed my views on this important area of investigation before audiences at lectures, workshops, and seminars nationwide but have been reluctant to have them published. It is a somewhat unsettling experience to contemplate having one’s ideas crystallized in print, especially for someone who prides himself on maintaining a flexible, constantly shifting perspective on reality. The spoken word is ephemeral, whereas the written word, by its very nature, implies a degree of permanence; and yet, there is nothing static in the evolution of truth” (My Work by Djwhal Khul). A lecture can be altered to impart a newly established perspective. The printed word, on the other hand, is less accommodating, does not lend itself to change, and thus mocks the flexibility essential to spiritual growth. Many of us hunger for stability, security, and a sense of permanence. We fear change. Yet change is the law of the universe and change we must whether we choose to consciously participate or resist.

The book was translated into several languages and distributed world wide. It was used at Westbrook University and other colleges. This book was written over 20 years ago and while his understanding did grow, every word remains true. Truth is timeless, so I guess he got it right.
When Llewellyn decided to drop it from their list he took it back, and as was his way, he re-published it and went back to his original title, Echoes From Eternity.
My brother Tony actually ripped one of the books apart, scanned it page by page into his computer and re-edited it for publication. If any of you have ever scanned a document into your computer you know that optical character recognition doesn’t quite work and it makes a lot of mistakes. This was a huge undertaking for a book. It was worth it to see the book in print again and dad did get to see his book with his original title before he passed away.

If Anthony Fisichella’s students are as well served by his personal instruction as the readers of this book will be by his written, then they should be grateful for such dispassionate and undogmatic erudition. I particularly appreciated Fisichella’s honest approach to the subject of metaphysics. The Source knows that we need more teachers who are capable of sharing several points of view without ceaselessly promoting one particular pathway. After all, the title promises us that we are to be presented with a definition of the study of metaphysics, not a selling of any particular doctrine. I was delighted to learn that Fisichella kept his promise.
Fisichella continually emphasizes the Oneness in the many, the fact that we are many threads of one fabric. It is this devotion to Oneness that, in my opinion, is able to keep him right on course throughout the book.
Certain more advanced students of metaphysics may wrongly judge the book as containing beginning elements of the field which will merely define the subject for the novice. To make such a judgment would be to render a grave disservice to both the author and even the most sophisticated of metaphysicians. There is much wisdom in this volume, enough to satisfy the serious student of long-standing. I found the chapters dealing with Freedom and Free Will and the possibility of Ascent through Meditation to be nicely saturated with thoughts and concepts worthy of continued reflection. The artwork by the way, is also tastefully and thoughtfully offered.
I hope that this work will find a wide audience, for I deem it a very useful tool in answering many of the troublesome questions that perplex both the lay audience and the practicing metaphysician.
So what is it about?
Well, it is kind of about everything… I know I said that about the Well of Wisdom series but that is the companion course to this book. From the various kingdoms of nature and the types of consciousness they represent, to man and his place in the universe. Dad makes sense of the two most greatly misunderstood doctrines of Karma and Reincarnation. He deals with these complex principles in a direct, logical, unemotional manner. He also works with concepts like “Free Will” and mans ascent through meditation with enough of his personal experiences to let us know that we are all on the right path, our own path.
H. P. Blavatsky, world renowned author Secret Doctrine, said “there is no religion greater than truth”. The ancient wisdom embodies the root principles of the world religions and does not directly subscribe to any one specific religion and therefore embodies Truth.
Life is but a lesson and we are all learning. We all become aware of life’s mysteries and inner levels at different rates. Sometimes we learn the easy way and sometimes we make it very hard. There are times we must suffer the pain of growth. Does not the child have to touch a hot pipe to know that it doesn’t feel good? Does not the infant have to fall many times before he learns to walk, and then run?

Tony, as he liked to be called, was dubbed the Meat & Potatoes Guru by Mike Unger, a columnist for Long Islands Newsday because of the way he delivered this often complicating and confusing information in an understanding and straightforward manner.
Anthony Fisichella began his study of metaphysics and. specifically the Ageless Wisdom, (the common principles contained at the core of all religions) over forty years ago while living on Long Island, NY. He began to share his knowledge at an Adult Ed class at Hicksville High School, and then his student body grew to include and Farmingdale University and C.W. Post College. His classes at the Hicksville Library grew from the original 13 students to over 300 every month. The rest is history.
He organized The Students of Esoteric Thought, and opened The New Age Center and a metaphysical bookstore.
The New Age Center became an umbrella that embraced many schools of thought, Dream Workshops, Personal Growth Workshops, Course of Miracles, Transcendental Meditation, Jose Silva Mind Control, Rosicrucian teachings, Theosophists, and Association for Research and Enlightenment, and much more. He believed that no one route is the only true route, and sought to fill the needs of the many.
“I try to teach a positive, creative and dynamic approach based on love and good will. We are a school of all forms of esoteric thought, not one specific movement.” Tony continued his sharing on a national level and eventually lectured on an international level.
From the seeds of his national and international tours grew the Annual International Metaphysics Festival held in Hempstead, Long Island. The festival featured sixty Eastern and Western spiritual leaders from around the globe, and attracted more than 3,000 attendees. Over the course of eight days over 200 lectures were offered.
In 2004 Tony created The Higher Ground Foundation.
