YOGI FAST-FOODS?
Is there any such thing? Probably not unless you include: fruits, berries, nuts, and some vegetables in your lunch pail. I consider them all take-out foods that come in their own wrappers. Nothing is more delicious and satisfying for me than a great big fruit salad and nuts for lunch. It is easily digested, the nutrients I get from it are from a good source, and I don’t feel guilty. My nutrition is from a “cruelty free” source. I no longer suffer from seeing cows being slaughtered as I chew and digest my food. Or the horrible condition the chicken I am eating lived in before it was killed. These images don’t interfere with my digestion as they did before I became a Vegan-Yogi. As I weaned myself off meat and meat-byproducts my system began to purify it’s self on many different levels. Today I feel light, yet strong. Able to move my body in anyway I choose and to make it do what I want it to. That my friends’ is freedom!
We can talk all day long about the benefits of excluding dairy and meat by-products from a diet and still you will not understand the difference in the way you feel about yourself and the world unless you quit. It is much like trying to get a smoker to realize the quality of their lives will improve if they quit and all the ways they will feel better. Meat eating is no different. Americans hold onto their burgers even tighter than their cigarettes!
Studies show that whatever percentage of calories you eat away from home in restaurants is equal to the percent you will be over weight. So, if you eat every lunch out you will be approximately 30% over your ideal weight. That is similar to adding 1/3 of a human being into your pants. Doesn’t exactly feel comfortable? You can’t move with the same freedom, can’t bend or stretch without the added burden. So, to lose weight quit eating what you’ve been eating. First you’re going to have to educate yourself. You can’t be “spoon fed” this information. It must be learned first hand from the experts. Dr. Joel Fuhrman does a great job in, “Eat To Live” and I liked “Skinny Bitch”, by Freedman and Barnouin. Although the language in “Skinny Bitch” is harsh at times, it gets down to the facts about food in the world today. There are plenty of great books out in which to choose and implement in your world. Let’s make it a healthy one.
And let’s not forget about the little Yogis! When we are young we only see what our parent, siblings, and other family members are doing. If there is always plenty of fresh-ALIVE food around the child will grow up thinking that food should be ALIVE. And they will look for live foods when they grow up. Live foods are easily digested and won’t weight you down. They work their way thru your system using the enzymes nature gave you and not just sitting, rotting in your body for days or even weeks as meat and meat-by products do. It is a blessing we bestow to them when we get our children off to a good start in life. Here again I want to mention Dr. Fuhrman, because he has children and he lives the lifestyle he writes about in his book for children’s health. You can go to www.drfuhrman.com and get started today on changing and improving your diet and that of your child.
The sooner you act thru education, the quicker the effect, the longer it will last. Our food life in America needs changing and we need educated grown-ups to lead the way. So, go invest in your family, your community, and your world by learning some new, old ways of eating! You will find, as I have found, eating can be fun and good for you at the same time.
As always you can e-mail me and I will help guide you towards more learning and exploration of alternatives to traditional Western eating!
